FIVP Practice Matters podcast returns for series three with CMA investigation focus

FIVP Practice Matters Series 3

FIVP’s podcast, Practice Matters, is back for a third series, exploring the hot topics, useful tips, and innovative ideas shaping the veterinary world. Hosted by Ian Wolstenholme, each episode welcomes guests from across the veterinary sector, especially those working in independent practice.

The new series begins on 13th January 2026, with episodes released every two weeks. In the first episode, Ian will be joined by Drs David Reader and Scott Summers to discuss one of the most significant developments facing the profession today – the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation.

David and Scott have used the CMA investigation into veterinary household pets as a central focus of their research. Together they unpack what prompted their investigation, what the CMA is seeking to understand, and why this scrutiny matters for practices, clients, and the wider veterinary sector.

Drawing on their research, David and Scott provide clear insights into themes such as transparency, pricing, consumer trust, and how regulatory attention may influence day-to-day clinical and business decisions. The conversation goes beyond headlines to examine evidence, context, and potential implications, helping listeners make sense of a complex and evolving landscape.

Ian Wolstenholme said: “2026 will undoubtedly see some changes to the veterinary landscape, with the final outcomes from the CMA investigation being unveiled.  Throughout the process, FIVP has been a main party representing our independent colleagues, and Practice Matters has provided a platform for teams to channel opinion and consideration.

“In its third series, we will try and hone in on what the changes will mean in reality for independent practices with advice and guidance on implementation and delivery, drawing on the experience of our own team and other experts in the profession.  Hope you can join us soon!”

Future episodes will feature:

Episode 1:  The CMA investigation with Drs David Reader and Scott Summers

Episode 2: A ‘CMA Roundtable’ discussion about some of the expected impacts on independent veterinary colleagues

Episode 3: Mark Ware from The “Not A Vet” Podcast

Episode 4: What ‘transparency’ in independents means with guest Dr Rebecca Maher from ‘Inside Minds’
