A Joint Approach to Arthritis: exclusive 10% discount

A new conference will provide a One Health approach to arthritis, bringing together speakers and delegates from the medicine, veterinary and veterinary nursing professions.

The continuing education event, ‘A Joint Approach to Arthritis’, will focus on a holistic approach to the management of joint disease. It will feature discussions into the diagnosis, treatment options and lifestyle management of joint disease in both humans and animals, considering how a multidisciplinary approach could benefit every sector.

The discussions will take place at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on 10 November, and will be in three separate streams: medicine, veterinary and veterinary nursing. It will run from 8.30am- 5pm.

The veterinary stream includes sessions on topics including the diagnosis of joint disease, performing joint taps and the role of intra articular injectable therapy. Meanwhile the veterinary nursing stream covers topics such as lifestyle support for pets, pain control and joint disease clinics, and in-house cytology.

There will also be joint sessions, featuring speakers from all three sectors, focusing on the cell therapies, monoclonal antibodies and novel therapies of the future.

The veterinary and veterinary nursing streams are complimentary, and so veterinary practices are encouraged to bring their full practice team if possible.

The event has been organised by father and son team Andrew and Carl Byrne, who have shared their own cross-discipline experiences with each other. Andrew Byrne has 35 years of experience in veterinary practice, with interest in orthopaedics, while son Carl Byrne’s work as an emergency medicine specialist registrar and Masters degree in Sports Medicine brings a human medicine approach.

FIVP member Dr Andrew Byrne said: “There is so much that we in veterinary and human medicine can learn from each other both formally and through informal networking.

“We hope to create a welcoming relaxed atmosphere where delegates can get to meet colleagues from both professions and stimulating interactive presentations.”
