Stowe Veterinary Group reunites abandoned dog with rescuer
Lorry driver Marcus was reunited with Ivy three years after finding her abandoned.

Stowe Veterinary Group, a group of independent practices, reunited a dog with one of her rescuers at this year’s Suffolk Show (27-28 May).

Ivy had been found alongside two other puppies near a lay-by in Colchester in December 2023.  Lorry driver Marcus contacted Moreton Hall Veterinary Centre, a Stowe Veterinary Group practice in Bury St Edmunds, to see if they could help.

The puppies were brought in to the practice, where the veterinary team immediately provided them with emergency care. They soon discovered that the three puppies were cockapoos, aged approximately eight weeks old.

All three of the puppies were found to be malnourished and suffering from extensive mange. One puppy had lost most of her fur and her front legs were deformed through vitamin deficiency.

They then received 24-hour care at sister practice Stowe Veterinary Centre to continue their treatment. After the mange was identified as non-contagious, they were fostered by veterinary surgeon and practice principal Martin Barrow.

Now, almost three years later, the dogs have all found safe and loving homes. Ivy now lives happily with Martin and his wife, head groomer and veterinary nurse Lesley Barrow.

Martin said: “It was wonderful to meet Marcus again, nearly three years after he brought us our lovely dog Ivy. Despite being close to death when Marcus discovered her by the side of the road, she is now a loving and affectionate part of the family.”

Stowe Veterinary Group was FIVP’s founding member when we launched in 2016. The group has been providing independent veterinary care for pets in Suffolk for over 70 years, and has practices in Stowmarket, Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, Needham Market and Elmswell.
