FIVP would like to congratulate Westport Veterinary Clinic as it opens its new branch in Scotland.

The new premises, in the town of Winchburgh, is the fourth branch to be opened by Westport Veterinary Clinic. It joins the practice’s other branches in South Queensferry, Linlithgow and Edinburgh.

Stuart McMurrow, Managing Director and Senior Veterinary Surgeon, said: “This expansion is about serving our clients better and improving access to care locally, while also strengthening our Westport 24 emergency service.

“Winchburgh is a growing area, and opening a branch here allows us to be closer to the clients and pets we already care for. By registering with Westport Vets, clients also gain access to our in-house 24-hour emergency service, ensuring continuity of care day and night.”

Work in Winchburgh

Westport Vets began on their expansion in 2025, planning building renovations to develop the new branch. The premises now incorporates two consulting rooms, a procedure room, pharmacy, kennels and an in-house laboratory.

Westport Vets has also increased the size of their team, employing additional veterinary surgeons, registered veterinary nurses and part-time receptionists.

Welcoming clients

One of the first clients at the new Winchburgh practice was Baxter, a Tibetan terrier who previously used Westport’s South Queensferry branch.

Rozlyn Cooper, Baxter’s owner, said: “Westport Vets are a brilliant addition to Winchburgh. Baxter was delighted to be the first to visit the new practice. This is testament to the team who have ensured he has only had positive experiences when visiting them at South Queensferry.”

Also visiting the practice was Mungo the Airedale terrier, who visited the practice with his owner Kirsty Hunter.

Kirsty said: “I was slightly apprehensive when your team asked if I would like to use the new Winchburgh branch for Mungo’s appointment, as I love the service received at South Queensferry, but worry not.

“The new Winchburgh practice is wonderful, with the same friendly faces and excellent service as I’ve always had, not to mention a lovely location and parking close by.”

What’s next?

Westport Vets is hosting an official open day at its new Winchburgh branch on Saturday, 7 March 2025. The official opening time will be shared by Westport Vets on their social media pages.

Clients registered at Westport Vets will be able to use any of the four branches for their pet’s appointments.

The next step for the team will be expanding the team of its out-of-hours emergency service, Westport 24. The service, which first launched in April 2025, has become increasingly busy.

Rita Dingwall, FIVP Chair, said: “It is fantastic to see independent practices like Westport Vets continuing to invest in their communities. Expansions such as this not only improve access to high-quality veterinary care for local pet owners, but also demonstrate the resilience and forward-thinking approach of the independent sector.

“On behalf of FIVP, I congratulate the team on the opening of their Winchburgh branch and wish them every success.”
