A slightly extended episode of the podcast in which Ian Wolstenholme talks with FIGEN MURRAY OBE. Figen lost her son Martyn Hett in the 2017 bombing atrocity at the Ariana Grande concert at Manchester. Since the tragedy Figen has been a prolific campaigner for events venues and businesses of all sizes to be aware of security risks and how to act in those unexpected situations.
Figen’s campaigning led to the introduction of ‘Martyn’s Law’, a UK law designed to enhance security by ensuring premises are trained to respond to the threat of terrorist attacks. Although the law follows an attack at a major venue, we believe the training is important to any business serving the public – including veterinary practices. Martyn’s Law has ensured that counter-terrorism training is available free to attend. The online training which is referred to in this edition can be found here.
We also learn about the place that a British blue shorthair cat had in Martyn’s life, reflecting how important the human-animal bond is to both owner and pet.
As ever, we would love to hear from your practice on this, or any other subject. Send a voice note or message to 07709 836865.
